I received my Katana about an hour ago. I couldn't be more pleased. It is beautiful! It came well packaged and in perfect condition. It exceeded my every expectation. I have read in reviews of other sword makers how the blade arrived scratched and/or the parts of the Katana were loose. Not with this one! It is a solid weapon. And I do mean weapon. I test the sharpness of my knives by pushing them through thin paper, not slicing, pushing. If they go through the paper without drag, they are sharp. My Katana went through the paper like it wasn't there right out of the box. The fabricators were very confident that I would be happy with their Katana before I received it. Now I know why. I'm not an expert on Katanas, but I have done a lot of reading. I believe the steel was really folded and the Hamon is real. The blade came wrapped coated in oil and wrapped in plastic to protect the Saya from the oil. Even the bag, though not the one pictured, is beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone and I am considering buying another.

This is a pretty nice sword however for the money there are better swords. When i received mine i saw on the blade that it appeared to have 2 hamons... yeah one was much more prominent than the other and its hardly noticeable and blade also looks scratchy. the tsuka was very nice and all the fittings were nice. All in all this is a good buy, you will be satisfied

This is my first sword. It came in perfect condition. The handle and wrapping were tight. The blade was very nice with no defects. The sword has a good edge but needed some final sharpening to slice stuff up. I filled a plastic bottle with water and it busted/cut it some and knocked it into the bushes. I sharpened it a little and re-tried my test. It sliced through with so little resistance it was a little scary. This thing is ready to go now. I also waxed the scabbard and it really made it shine. If its as tough as the videos show...its a keeper. I also bought a bokken to practice with.....which was a good call because a mistake might cost me some stitches or worse. :D

Double Sweet!!!!!! Beautiful red and black blade highlights the folding laminations, solid construction. Hay bales yield smoothly. Details nice. I got it for the symbolism of the green and fish, and the red blade details -- Archangel St Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing (Green and fish) and Archangel St Euriel, the Source of Divine Wisdom (Red). Later, I might ask Ryan to have matching Wakizashi and Tanto made for me. I'll bet that the Archangel Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing, uses the sword to metaphorically cut out illness.

These are great practice swords. I've been using them for full contact sparring for months now. The only thing I've noticed is the hand guards tend to loosen relatively easily during hard strikes. Not really an issue. After using traditional wooden bokken for years, I'm never going back. I don't know why they're so expensive all of a sudden.

Alright.. As a outdoor survivalist/hunter I've had the pleasure of trying many different kinds of blades of all kinds. This particular sword has impressed alot so far. The wrapping is tight, the blade is sharp and the quality of steel is outstanding. My first attempt at a cut was a milk jug I had filled with water... Thinking I needed a fast strong cut I swung fairly hard only to think I had missed. The blade cut so smooth through the bottle (starting at the handle) I didn't even feel it connect with the bottle. Not sure if its luck but the first cut I did left no water on the blade, I thought that was pretty cool. I've handled many katanas and blades and ill tell you this one has an intimidation factor. Even if you are familiar with swords be mindful this one has a slightly different shape than traditional katanas. This is NOT A TOY. I'm very pleased and recommend this for collectors and someone looking for a SOLID beginner battle ready weapon. After several tests with meat/bone believe this to be an excellent choice for defense. I live in the mountains where there are wolves and mountain lions and I feel confident this would put an aggressive animal down easily. The handling is a bit blade heavy but the handle is long enough to have a comfortable swing with alot of blade side leverage to cleave with ease. Again, highly recommended.

I was looking for a solid, practical sword for self defense purposes. After scouring Amazon, this is where I decided to take my chances. I am VERY pleased! This sword is definitely well made. I have no doubt it will hold up if and when I need to fully utilize it's potential. Solidly sharp edge out of the box. A little heavier than I had expected, but this is my first katana. The balance is slightly forward, but has a fantastic overall feel and great look. For the price, I couldn't be happier! I have full confidence this is capable of taking an intruders arm clean off.

Purchased this Katana for my son. I am not terribly familiar with Japanese swords but am very happy with my purchase. The sword arrived significantly before the expected delivery date and was in perfect condition. Unpacked, the sword is contained in a decorative cloth bag with a gold cord with tassels. The wooden sheath is high gloss black with some decorative accents and very nice in appearance and quality. The Katana itself to me seems to be very well made with a sharp edge. Taking off the protective plastic sleeve and removing the factory oil protectant reveals a beautiful dark reddish/brown hue. I am extremely pleased with the Katana and sure my son will be thrilled. 100% satisfied.

I was very impressed by the quality of this katana when I pulled it out of the box. The blade was well made and came with a certificate of authenticity that detailed the basic qualities of the sword as a whole. I wouldn't say it was razor sharp but it was sharp enough to do the basic cut tests, in which it held as expected for it's particular price. The artwork on the handle is well crafted and gives it it's own unique look which I personally like. I would say it's better than average for its price, so if you want a better sword you'll need to pay more.

This sword is a beautiful sword, and such a bargain. The Tsuba (hand guard) is absolutely gorgeous, the pommel is secured tightly, and the sword is extremely well balanced. The blade in beautiful as well, you can see that it's folded steel and mine came extremely sharp. The scabbard is nicely crafted and fits the sword perfectly. On the scabbard, the sageo and the kurikata are secured beautifully.

Very nice katana. Especially for the price. For 100 dollars you cannot beat this sword. I'm not a self proclaimed master swordsman like most of the people who write these reviews, and I'm not gonna pretend like I am. That being said I don't know for sure how katanas are graded traditionally so I'm giving this one 5 stars based on how it appeals to me. Aesthetically appealing across the board. Real hamon, everything was just as advertised. It came nice and sharp, although I plan on honing it more. I cut a few tree branches with ease, and some others weren't so easy (which may have been my technique or lack thereof). I don't know if it's razor sharp or not or how to determine that, but it sliced a paper into ribbons a few times. I would buy this sword again, in fact I probably will. No blade wobble. Yes it's made in China, what isn't these days.

For anyone looking for an authentic cutting sword, this is a great choice. This is the more refined version of the Hanwei Practical Katana Sword. I did some research and this rated well in many sword enthsiast forums. It comes with a tag from Hanwei that provides a serial number to document that this is a Hanwei sword. The workmanship is so beautiful for a sword of this price that I have not had the heart to cut with it yet. I may just buy another one and keep one for decoration and dedicate the other for cutting practice.

I purchased this Katana to protect myself from zombies. You can imagine my disappointment when shipping was so slow that zombies had killed my whole family before it finally got to me. However, when it finally got here I was very impressed with the attention to detail. It is very sharp and light weight. The colors are beautiful. I have already used it to kill 7 zombies. One of which was the UPS man who had me sign for it. I didn't get a good look at him before I struck, but he appears to have turned back into a human after my fatal blow. I am currently hiding in a window well and spying on the zombies to learn their ways. When the time is right, I will strike. 5/5 would buy again!

It may be a replica but it's a nice one and ranks higher than other swords I've bought. Decent edge. The ronin-02 has the best edge of mine for the three but I like my collection to have different looking swords or at least saya/tsukas so this was necessary to add to the collection.

i just got this sword today the shipping was early by a day and the boxing was good and it came with a stand and belt. the craftsmanship of the blade was great and it feels like it could put some real damage out. its worth the money in my opinion. the tsuka was fit for either one or two hand wielding and the blade was almost razor sharp.

I purchased this for a friend of mine as a gift. The hammon is real and beautiful, the sword is solid, and much more beautiful in person than in pictures. My friend is most pleased and his co workers are jealous. A quality sword, handmade, and a reasonable price. The sword is oilde not too light not too thick, its edge is not as sharp as it could be but is still battle ready, I'd suggest getting a wet stone to sharpen. The steel is a modern way of recreating Damascus steel so it is Damascus steel in a way. The sword is pretty well balanced and its only flaw is the handle isn't as pretty but with looking at it more thoroughly its very sturdy. No katana is meant for cutting tree limbs as no sword should be used as such, the metal is long so it will bend if hit against something its not meant for. Although bamboo is tougher its also hollow. Don't forget to oil it every once in a while as it is a metal that can rust. Treat ur sword with respect and proper use and it will last. It is in fact a great sword and I'm still loving it.

This is perfect. Its made with nice strong damascus steel. They didn't over do it on the oil they put on the blade its not to heavy, and its well balanced. Its a high quality sword for an affordable price.

I don't know a lot about swords, but I did a lot of research before buying it because it was a gift. Prompt delivery, gorgeous blade, very sharp. I couldn't find anything else as good as this for the price. You could definitely find better, but you'd be paying at least hundreds of dollars more. I love this weapon. It maybe lighter than wood, but it is far more durable. I also like its lightness because it can used with speed. I plan to get a second one to have a matching pair. I have 2 Wooden Wakazashi Bokken and 1 Wooden Tanto Bokken, and all three are stored because they get chipped and start to split. I will only use Cold Steel Trainers from now on. The Cold Steel trainers don't have the distracting vibration that wood creates hitting a target. Lastly, a well placed strike with a Cold Steel trainer can be just as brutal as a Wooden Bokken strike.

Great price for a high quality product served up with solid customer service . I ordered the katana and the next day contacted Ryan through Amazon wondering if it would be possible to customize a few parts . It took a few days for a reply but they were very courteous and eager to please . Not only would they substitute the requested parts but did so with no extra charges and even e-mailed photos for approval before shipping . It came well packaged and in perfect shape . The katana is absolutely gorgeous ! Beautiful hamon from the clay tempering on the folded high carbon polished blade . Solid construction and more than sufficiently sharp to start in on practice targets out of the box . Great balance and feel . Overall it was a pleasure to both work with the company and enjoy the fine product . I'm more than certain I'll be doing business with Ryan again . I am very pleased with this Musashi sword. It arrived quite sharp and with no issues such as warped blades. It included a cotton sword bag for storage and a certificate of authenticity. My sword had a slight rattle in the hilt. I was concerned that the hilt was loose, but, after removing the pegs, I was completely unable to budge the hilt. Turned out that the "rattle" was actually the Menuki, the little brass good luck charm that Samurai had placed under the wrappings. This is probably one of the best swords you can get in this price range.

I got it from one of my friends as a gift, it's a very good quality sword, i can't believe it's only around $100. I bought similar one in Japanese town 2 years ago but that cost me $350!!!
